Steven was born in 1947 in Utah. He has been involved in the creation of art all of his life. His childhood years were spent exploring the countryside and mountains around him. He did carvings, drawings and clay sculpture of wildlife, horses, and human figures. As a young man, he created one of the finest lines of bronze bas-relief wildlife and western belt buckles ever cast, which were sold in all fifty states, Canada and abroad. Relief works eventually lead him into three dimensional sculpture. Anatomical study, critiques and field research, coupled with an innate ability to conceptualize and design, brought about both wildlife and western bronzes, which he sold through a number of galleries and to private collectors.
He was also commissioned to create custom bronzes for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation,Wild Wings, Chilmark and B.T.S. of California. Steven then met and married his wife Laurel, who is an accomplished realist painter. Since they both had children from previous marriages, they blended their families and moved to Bozeman, Montana. After raising their children, they decided to move to San Diego in 1998, for educational opportunities. The last nine years have been spent doing decorative painting and murals with his wife and son, Travis. At the same time, Steven began academic study of human anatomy, both privately and at an accredited Atelier. This specialized training, along with his previous experience in sculpture, has allowed Steven to create masterful works of fine art. He and his family recently moved to Bend, Oregon, to pursue art full time, in a beautiful creative environment.
